Historical background of Kawo Muslim Association (KAMAN)

INTRODUCTION
All praise belongs to Allah, the all-compassionate the all- merciful. Blessings and peace be upon his last prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family members and all those who follow his foot-steps till the end of this world.
Islam is a comprehensive code of life revealed by the all-merciful creator for the guidance and the betterment of humanity here and hereafter. Man being social, needs associations and organizations for the achievements of goals and success is the dependent of quality leadership.
The main motive behind the formation of this association was to propagate Islam, render community service and extend helping hand to Muslims orphans and less previllage of Kawo, Kaduna and Nigeria at large.
BRIEF HISTORY OF KAWO MUSLIM YOUTH ASSOCIATION (OLD NAME)
Kawo Muslim youth association was formed by the Muslim youth of the community dated back to twenty, (20) years, the main aim of the association was to unite all the Muslim youth of the communities to be under one umbrella body, the association serves as an avenue for the Muslim youth to meets, discuss, help each other, share knowledge and most importantly propage Islam and the teachings of the religion to both Muslims and Non-Muslim communities.
However, the association has Built a very strong foundation on the aspect of Islamic propagation (Da’awa) communities and villages were visited for Da’awa where two Islamic scholars were selected and chosen to be at the two communities which are Chori and Jagindi, Mal Musa was send to Jagindi Tasha for Da’awa and Mal Abdullahi was also send to Chori for Da’awa. the association and its members contributed and purchased two (2) motorcycles for the two scholars to enable them carryout the responsibility assigned to them.
Moreover, the association succeeded in building a Juma’at masjid at Chori village and dedicated an imam for the new convert to teach them the religion properly. The association took two (2) students from Chori and Pandogani to study on scholarship so that they can go back to their villages and teach their people the religion of Islam.
Kawo Muslim youth association from time to time solicit for assistance from people and well to do to raised food, clothes, medicines etc. to assist the people of those communities. The association has done a lot of good to the people of those villages for the sake of Allah. The association expanded its Da’awa to Kajuru local government where scholars (Da’es) were also send to propage Islam.
Many Islam public lectures, Ta’alim, Muhadarat were organized and conducted in different communities with Kaduna north local government area of Kaduna state by the association in the past twenty (20) years.
The association also rendered community health services as regards to health related issues within Kawo community. A chemist was open to assist the orphans and less previllage in the community with a professional doctor to render the services to the people, this was designed and organized by a program of the association called TAKALIFULIL – ITAM……..
Still under the Da’awa Program of Kawo Muslim Association of Nigeria Mal. Abdulmalik was send to a village called aka (AKA), Mal. Abdullahi Mustapha was also posted to Nock to continue with the Da’awa (propagation) of Islam to the people of that area. Record has shown that the association was able to visit the following communities and established strong relationship with them most especially in terms of Da’awa
(Islamic propagation), these are the communities:

• Jagindi
• Unguwan kafinta
• AKA
• Nock
• Kwai
• Tsakiya
• Kachia L.G
• Gyani
• Unguwan maga
• Jaban kogo
• Pandogari
The following were some of the beneficiaries from such areas
• Muhammad
• Hamza
• Misbahu Aliyu
• Ashiru – Jagindi Tasha
However, some part of Igabi local government was also visited by the association such as; Unguwan Chediya, Kokkumake, Mashigi all in Kaduna state.

Moreover, the association has the following existing committees that help running the activities of the associations.

DEVELOPMENT AND RE-STRUCTURE OF THE ASSOCIATION
The nomenclature (name) and leadership of Kawo Muslim youth association has taken a new shape and structure as a result of a great opportunity that eventually made the chairman (AMIR)- Mal Jibril Ibrahim chosen by the Zazzau emirate council on the ………… to serve as the chief imam of sheikh Abubakar Gumi Juma’at masjid Kawo Kaduna. However, this advancement and promotion pave a way to the association to select another leader (chairman) to run the affairs of the association. After rigorous deliberation and discussion by the executives of the association with the outgoing chairman (AMIR), the executive organ of the association chosed Alh/Mal Shehu Uthman Gambo to be the new chairman (AMIR) of the association (Kawo Muslim Youth Association).
Appointment of Alh/Mal. Shehu Uthman Gambo as the new chairman (AMIR) of the association has become a great and better opportunity with his initiatives to renew the structure and constitution of Kawo Muslim youth association in order to create more communities, fill in the vecant executive positions of the association. This is in order to ensure a smooth running of the association, in this regards, Mal. Abubakar Tanko (Ass. Sec. Gen) to serve as the secretary of the association. The new chairman (AMIR) and his amiable cabinets began a move to actualize the registration of the association with cooperate affairs commission (CAC), lots of efforts were put in place to ensure the registration with CAC was a successful one. The registration was given mandate to come up with a suitable nomenclature (name) for the association before the registration with CAC.
Different name were given during the general meetings of the association and scrutiny were made, where all members agreed and endorsed Kawo Muslim Association of Nigeria (KAMAN) as a new name for the association, therefore, after relentless effort by the leadership of the association a successful registration was conducted with CAC on …………, the cooperate affairs commission (CAC) issued a certificate of registration of KAMAN.
The actualization of Kawo Muslim Association of Nigeria (KAMAN) registration with CAC was very possible because of the sacrifice and contributions by members of the association to raise the registration fees with CAC. Therefore, at this juncture, the leadership of Kawo Muslim Association of Nigeria (KAMAN) appreciates the support of the entire members of the association.
Achieving a successful registration with CAC courage to proceed with another registration with EFCC, this is to ensure that the association has a certificate that will serve as a clearance (FREE) from the financial crimes of our time.
Under the leadership of the new chairman (AMIR) Mal/Alh. Shehu Uthman Gambo and his cabinete a lot of transformations were put in place to boost the performance of each committee and sections of the association for good.
The leadership of the association assigned responsibilities to certain members to chair the committees for better outcomes.
NEW LEADERSHIP OF THE ASSOCIATION
Leadership is about giving without expecting to take. It is about caring without caring to be cared about. It is about supporting without expecting to be supported. It is about being just with those who are not fair to you.
Leadership is about giving followers the missing dimensions. It is about giving spreading order out of chaos, creating confidence out of despair, trust out of suspicion and courage out of fear. Leadership is about making change. Leaders do not necessarily hold positions of authority. The neither derive their influence from wealth nor power.
Therefore, Kawo Muslim Association of Nigeria (KAMAN) like any other association has its own systematic hierarchy of leadership after the restructure development by the new leadership as follows-:

ADVANCE ACTIVITIES OF THE ASSOCIATION (KAMAN)
Kawo Muslim, Association of Nigeria (KAMAN) has advanced its activities from the Da’awa to other aspects of humanity and community services; this is in order to extend a helping hand to the communities of Kawo, Kaduna North and Nigeria at large. The following are the list of series activities of the association as documented in the association’s action plan-:
• Organizing and conducting Da’awa (Preaching)
• Organizing weekly meeting (every Friday of the week) to share knowledge and discuss on important issues.
• Organizing and conducting visitations to-:
i- Hospitals
ii- Schools
iii- Dignities of the community
iv- Cemetery
v- Correctional centers
vi- Scholars
• Providing support in terms of community services such as in terms of security challenges and issues within the community.
• Empowerment through skills acquisition training etc.
• Slot seeking for job opportunities for members of the association and community members (where possible)
• Securing admission to primary, secondary and tertiary level students
• Supporting orphans, less previllage and drop out of school with scholarship through orphanage committee.
ACHIEVEMENT OF KAWO MUSLIM ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (KAMAN)
The reason for any vision is people, when you identify the right people who can help fulfill your purpose, give them a kingly treatment. You can count the number of seeds in an apple but you can’t count the number of apples in a seed. Therefore, Kawo Muslim Association of Nigeria (KAMAN) has achieved a lot right from inception to date. Some of the major achievement of the association can be seen through the following aspect.
i- Unity-: The association achieved a medal towards uniting the Muslim youth of Kawo community and beyond through its Islamic educational programs, this brings the youths under one umbrella, this made the association to have representation within Kaduna state and the FCT Abuja.
ii- Building Juma’at Masjid in Chori village-: the association has achieved this goal through its Da’awa program where teachers were send their to teach people about Islam.
iii- Registration with CAC-: Kawo Muslim Association of Nigeria (KAMAN) was able to get registration with cooperate affairs commission and also obtained a certificate of registration.
iv- Acceptable nomenclature (name) -: The leadership of KAMAN was able to achieve this great goal through the support of the members a universally acceptable name was given to the free from any extremism.
v- Good report with security agencies-: The association was able to established good relationship with different security agencies such as the police, JTF, military and other classical security operatives.
vi- Partnering with KCDA-: Kawo Muslim Association of Nigeria has achieved a very good goal in partnering with Kawo Community Unity Development Association (KCDA) to render community services community health issues which KAMAN and KCDA collaborate to provide some health facilities to Kawo General Hospital such as-:
1. B.P measuring tools
2. Sugar measuring tools
3. Iron sits
4. Referral service ambulance,
However, the state government assigned the two associations to oversee the affairs of Kawo General Hospital, indeed this is a great achievement.
vii- Registration with EFCC-: Kawo Muslim Association of Nigeria (KAMAN) has also gained an opportunity to obtained registration and certificate from EFCC to prove that the association is free from any financial crimes.
viii- Organizing Walima (send forth) to Naval/Airforce officers-: The association also organized and conducted walima (lectures) for the officers of Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Airforce to remind them on their responsibility as Kawo community members, dignities, royal fathers, retired officers and serving one’s were invited to present speeches etc.
MAJOR CHALLENGES OF KAWO MUSLIM ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (KAMAN)
Kawo Muslim Association of Nigeria (KAMAN) as any other association has its own major challenges which sometimes hinder progress in its activities for better achievements. The following are some of the areas of challenges of the association-:
• Lack of government support
• Inadequate support from political office holders
• Inadequate source of income/fund
• Lack of financial support from well to do individuals of the community
• Lack of support (financially) from the general public any developmental projects.
